Sanikiluaq pilot project flight extended to July 2022

Iqaluit, Nunavut (February 3, 2022) – Premier P.J. Akeeagok, is pleased to announce the extension of the Sanikiluaq pilot project flight to July 5, 2022.

“This pilot project was implemented to address the travel needs of the community, reduce the reliance on chartered services and allow the GN to improve services in Sanikiluaq,” said Premier Akeeagok. “This extension ensures the community has ongoing air service access and helps reduce the risk for potential exposure to
COVID-19 by offering a direct route between Sanikiluaq and Iqaluit”.

The pilot project started in July 2021 and is extended to July 5, 2022. The GN continues to guarantee the purchase of six seats per leg and has so far invested $359,805 in the pilot project. Approximately 400 Nunavummiut have benefited from this service, offered twice a week between the two communities. With the number of passengers steadily increasing, the GN is hopeful that this air service will become commercially viable and offered in the long-term.
