Nunavut recognizes National Nursing Week

May 8 to 14 is National Nursing Week, and this year’s theme is Our Nurses. Our Future. The Department of Health would like to take this time to recognize the many roles that nurses play throughout a patient’s healthcare journey.

The global COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the commitment and dedication of Nunavut’s nursing staff. While they continued to work at the frontlines of patient care, Nunavut's nurses adeptly shifted into various roles to protect the health and safety of all Nunavummiut.

This year's theme also speaks of growing and retaining a strong locally-trained workforce. To that end, the Department of Health wants to recognize the dedication of nursing students and recent graduates of the Nunavut Arctic College Nursing program. Nunavummiut pursuing further education in the field of healthcare will lead to a sustainable source of Nunavut's future nurses.

This Nursing Week, offer a word of thanks and encouragement to the current, past or future nurses in your community. On social media use, #NunavutNurses, #OurNursesOurFuture, to share your stories of exceptional nurses, or about a nurse who has left a lasting impression with you.
