Nunavut Premier John Main today released the following statement:
“I was pleased to represent Nunavut at the inaugural Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, hosted by Prime Minister Mark Carney. Nunavut has so much to offer global investors as a territory rich in natural resources and a strong environmental framework for certainty. Our mining, fisheries, and tourism sectors have great potential to grow with the proper investment. This summit was an opportunity to show investors from around the world that Nunavut is open for business.
Our government and our partners, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated, have identified four Inuit-led nation-building projects we believe will demonstrate how partnerships can contribute to Canada’s goal of mobilizing domestic and international investments.
As Canada’s youngest territory, Nunavut’s untapped resources can help our country prosper for many years to come, with the right support.
I also conveyed the value of partnering and investing in Indigenous-led projects in support of Arctic security and sovereignty.
As outlined in Ikajuqtigiikta, our government is committed to investing in a brighter future for all Nunavummiut. We will continue to make our case that investing in projects in Nunavut can benefit investors and communities, enhancing infrastructure for future generations of residents.”
