Today, Nunavut Premier John Main released the following statement:
“As Premier of Nunavut, I am disappointed and concerned that the Canada-US trade talks did not conclude successfully over the weekend.
Our government will assess the impacts of tariffs on our territory, businesses, and residents. We will continue to advocate for a resolution that increases economic opportunities and mutual economic benefits here at home.
I would personally like to thank Prime Minister Carney, Minister LeBlanc and Team Canada for their tireless efforts negotiating on behalf of Canada.
The tariff challenges mean we must remain focused on building Canada and growing our trade opportunities for our country.
These opportunities will be discussed during the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Committee on Internal Trade meeting, hosted by Minister Craig Simailak as the co-chair, this week in Iqaluit.
I welcome the members of the Committee later this week and I hope for meaningful and fruitful discussions which will benefit Nunavut and the whole country.”
