Nunavut Premier John Main today released the following statement:
“My sincere and deepest condolences go out to families, friends and colleagues of the three crew members who lost their lives Wednesday in a plane crash while fighting a wildfire near Fort Simpson, NWT.
First responders in our territories put themselves in harm’s way to protect others from danger, and we commend their selfless service. Their loss is being felt across the North.
Nunavut and the Northwest Territories are neighbours who share a deep understanding of the risks our first responders, pilots and emergency crews accept on our behalf. The thoughts of Nunavummiut are with the people of the Northwest Territories and all those grieving this tragedy.”
