Premier Main announces executive-level changes

Iqaluit, Nunavut (June 19, 2026) – Premier John Main today announced changes at the Government of Nunavut’s (GN) executive level, effective immediately:

  • Kristie Cronin becomes Deputy Minister of Human Resources.
  • Eiryn Devereaux becomes Deputy Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Nunavut.
  • Kyle Seeley becomes Deputy Minister of Community Services.

Premier Main also appointed three new deputy heads:

  • Sandy Kownak is appointed as Deputy Minister of Culture and Heritage. Ms. Kownak was previously Associate Deputy Minister of Family Wellness with the Department of Family Services.
  • Michele LeBlanc-Havard is appointed as Deputy Minister of Environment. Ms. LeBlanc-Havard was previously Director, Environmental Protection.
  • Mathieu Parker is appointed as President of the Nunavut Housing Corporation. Mr. Parker was most recently the Director of the Arctic Council Secretariat in Norway, and previously vice-president of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency in Iqaluit.

“As we work to implement the Ikajuqtigiikta mandate, we need to build on the momentum of our accomplishments to date,” said Premier Main. “These staffing changes align the strengths, expertise, and professional interests of our leaders with the priorities of government and the significant work ahead. They represent a positive evolution within the public service. I have great confidence in our leadership team as they work to fulfill our mandate and serve Nunavummiut. I thank both Teresa Hughes and Alma Power for their many years of public service. Both have consistently demonstrated their leadership and commitment to Nunavut, and I wish them well."
