Premier John Main today issued the following statement regarding recent comments by United States officials about Greenland.
“Nunavut stands in solidarity with Greenland and supports its autonomy.
Nunavut shares strong cultural, linguistic and familial ties with Greenland and remains committed to maintaining these important relationships.
Since 2000, the Governments of Nunavut and Greenland have maintained a close working relationship outlined in formal memoranda of understanding, with a focus on fisheries, ports, mobility, education and culture.
We remain hopeful that constructive dialogue will support stability in our Arctic Nations and affirm Greenland’s role as a valued partner to Nunavut, and Canada.”
