Premier acknowledges Nunavut MP Lori Idlout joining Liberal Party

Nunavut Premier John Main today issued the following statement regarding Nunavut Member of Parliament Lori Idlout leaving the NDP to join the Liberal Party:

“Our MP continues to have our full support. We thank her for her work to date on issues of importance to the territory such as the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) and the Inuit Child First Initiative (ICFI).

We plan to continue working closely with her to advance solutions in meeting Nunavut’s basic infrastructure needs and supporting and building stronger communities to have Nunavut included in Canada’s Arctic security and sovereignty strategy.

A strong partnership with the federal government is important to fill gaps in Nunavut for the betterment of our residents, and we expect she will continue to be a strong voice for Nunavut in Ottawa.”
