Premier John Main recognizes Nunavut’s response to British Airways flight diversion

Today, Nunavut Premier John Main released the following statement:

“The safe and coordinated response to yesterday’s diversion of British Airways Flight 53 to Iqaluit demonstrated what can be accomplished when people come together in support of others. Faced with an unexpected situation, organizations worked quickly to ensure passengers and crew received the care and support they needed.

I extend my sincere thanks to British Airways, the Iqaluit Airport Authority and airport staff, Airport Fire Services, the Iqaluit Fire Department, the Canada Border Services Agency, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Public Safety Canada, Nunavut Emergency Management, territorial departments, and many others who worked together to support this response. I want to thank the passengers and crew for their patience and cooperation throughout this incident. I also want to recognize the local businesses, organizations and community members who stepped forward to offer assistance. Your professionalism, generosity and willingness to help reflect the kindness and hospitality that Nunavut is known for.

On behalf of the Government of Nunavut, thank you to everyone who contributed to this response. Matna.”
